CBD for dogs - experiences with CBD in skin animals

CBD for Dogs

We humans are not the only ones who can benefit from the non-psychoactive cannabis ingredient CBD. Since mammals, fish, and mollusks also have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), the quality of life of these animals can also be increased with the so-called CBD oil for dogs.

CBD for Dogs opens up a new perspective for animal lovers who care about their pets' welfare. In the following, you will find out how the active ingredient can be used and what options it offers.

How does CBD work for dogs?

There is actually no difference in the mode of action between humans and dogs. Apparently, all mammals have the so-called endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for the uptake of cannabinoids. This, in turn, has two receptors (CB1 and CB2) that are distributed over the entire body, i.e. in the brain, in the nerve cells, in the stomach, and in the skin. They ensure that cannabinoids such as B CBD, which is also THC, are absorbed and processed by the body. For example, if people or animals get into a stressful situation and then consume cannabidiol, this ensures relaxation in a very short time.

In fact, the body makes cannabinoids on its own, but in most cases, they are insufficient to relieve severe pain or effectively treat other ailments. Preparations containing cannabidiol such as oil, liquid, or flowers support the endocannabinoid system and help to alleviate symptoms or cure diseases. According to some studies, CBD in dogs is very versatile and differs in its organic nature from most synthetic treatments. It is expected that this will have a positive effect on tolerability. So your four-legged friend tends to be less affected by side effects. Even so, CBD is not a panacea, but it does help alleviate certain symptoms and make life easier for people and animals.

Use of hemp oil in dogs

If one looks at some success stories from private pet owners, it is clear that cannabis oil in small amounts (individually adjustable according to size, weight, and breed) is suitable for dogs. But why should you give your dog (pet) marijuana extract?

Clinical studies - including from Canada and the USA - have shown that cannabis oil in dogs can cure or at least reduce physical and psychological complaints such as frequent stressful situations, anxiety, unfounded nervousness, etc. The drug should be particularly effective in dogs suffering from epilepsy (convulsive strokes). The cramps were sometimes reduced by up to 75% and lasted shorter. But complaints such as chronic pain should also be alleviated by taking cannabis oil several times.

Cannabis oil is also effective when there are no acute health problems. CBD can also be used as a dietary supplement, for example, to increase and improve vitality, endurance, energy, and activity.

The hemp oil for dogs also helps to strengthen the immune system, supports the metabolism and the digestive tract.

Another health aspect is the harmonious interaction of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are of great importance for the transmission of stimuli between the organism and the brain.

What do vets say about the use of CBD?

If you are planning on purchasing CBD products for your dog, it is a good idea to discuss this with a veterinarian first. However, don't be amazed if he or she uses cannabis. Although many scientific studies have produced positive and promising results, many veterinarians are not always up to date on this. Accept the veterinarian's advice, but don't let CBD oil hold up your pet. It would be good to find an open-minded veterinarian who is also experienced in using CBD oil. In general, you can educate them about CBD oil usage and how to find the right CBD oil for dogs.

Do some study and talk to other pet owners who have used hemp oil on their animals. Keep in your head that the side effects can be minor and infrequent, so there may be no harm to your pet the first time you use CBD oil. If your dog does not respond well to the CBD oil after the initial treatment, it can be stopped quickly and easily.

Above all, it is important to choose a CBD product that is made entirely from organic cannabis plants to ensure it is free of mould, pesticides, and heavy metals, as these can be deadly to your pet.

What diseases is CBD useful for dogs with?

CBD is generally beneficial for sick and healthy animals. However, ingestion is especially helpful in relation to these ailments:

  • The anxiety of all kinds

  • Infections

  • Pain

  • Wound healing

  • epilepsy

  • senility

  • Mental problems

  • Cancers

The listed conditions are the most common, but researchers believe there are other areas where CBD use could provide positive results. Unfortunately, science is still in its beginning in this regard, but many more studies are sure to be conducted on the subject in the foreseeable future.

However, it should also be noted that hemp oil is not a panacea for dogs, which makes all symptoms go away overnight. Rather, it should serve as a healthy diet and an important lifestyle. It has other healthy ingredients and can be helpful for many ailments - but the effect has its limits. It is all-important to always pay attention to the quality of the products when buying. Only high-quality preparations can produce positive effects and experiences.

Can cannabidiol also cause side effects in my dog?

It is often said that products containing cannabidiol may not cause side effects, but unfortunately, this is not entirely true. In fact, CBD is not psychoactive, does not cause "highs" like THC, and does not cause addiction, but some side effects and interactions can still occur.

For example, if you are the owner of a pregnant dog, you should refrain from administering cannabidiol, as the proteins it contains can negatively affect the functioning of the placenta. The same applies to dogs that suffer from poor appetite. In contrast to appetite-increasing THC, high-dose CBD can have the opposite effect, i.e. an appetite inhibition.

If your four-legged friend is already taking medication, a consultation with the veterinarian should be carried out before the administration of cannabidiol, as some medications are poorly tolerated with the medication. These include, above all, acid and anticoagulants, analgesics and neuroleptics. Otherwise, however, there is no risk in taking cannabidiol.

How Much CBD Should You Give Your Pet?

As mentioned earlier, overdosing on CBD oil can lead to side effects and psychoactive problems in your pets. This is why it is important to give your pet the correct dosage. Unfortunately, research and studies on the right amount of CBD oil for pets are still not comprehensive enough.

The dosages of CBD oil for animals are slightly different than for humans and are more in line with the animal's body weight. As with humans, however, animals should start with a low dose and gradually increase it until the desired effect is achieved. Usually, one dose per day is sufficient. In severe illness, you may need to give 2-3 doses per day. Simply mix the CBD animal oil under the feed.

Sample dosage of CBD for dogs

On the first day, start with a drop of CBD oil for animals. On day two of giving dosage to your dog, increase the number of drops to 2. On the third day, apply 3 drops, etc., etc., until the desired effect is achieved.

Dosing and administration of CBD oil for animals

As a dietary supplement, CBD oil for pets with a low CBD content is sufficient. If you want to support seriously ill animals, we recommend starting with a concentration of 2-5%. An even higher concentration (e.g. 10%) can then still be reversed after the animal has got used to the CBD oil.

For most dogs, the standard dose is 2 drops for every 5 kg of body weight. We suggest not using more than 3 drops of CBD oil per kg of body weight for animals. As with us humans, you need to find out the most effective dose for yourself. You can't go much wrong (too high a dose?) As there are no known side effects. Remember, however, that an even larger amount doesn't necessarily work faster or better. CBD is known to work even at low dosages. CBD oil for animals should be used for digestion for at least 3 weeks to get used to. A break of a few days is recommended after 3 months.

Conclusion: do we recommend CBD oil for dogs?

We are pleasantly surprised and delighted that cannabidiol can help animals as well as humans. We can recommend you and any other dog owner just to try it out for yourself and take advantage of the positive properties of the drug. As mentioned earlier, care should be taken not to buy substandard products as they are not only ineffective but can also cause side effects. So always stick to our guides and buy recommendations.
